Three Gorges Hydropower Plant (“TGHPP”) operates and manages the world’s largest hydropower station - Three Gorges Hydropower Station.
The plant consists of 26 generating units of 700 MW in the Left and Right Bank Stations, 6 generating units of 700 MW in the Underground Power Station, and 2 generating units of 50 MW in the Plant Service Power Station, with the total installed capacity of 22,500 MW. The plant is located in Yichang Sandouping in the middle section of Xiling Gorge, the Yangtze River. It is in the center of national grid network, connecting the East China Grid, Central China Grid and China Southern Power Grid. It is also an important power source for China’s “West-East Power Transmission Project”. By December 31, 2018, accumulative power generation of TGHPP had reached 1,190.5 TWh.
With per capita managed installed capacity of 50 MW, TGHPP is committed to pursuing the world-class standard, and has built a new model of hydropower operation, i.e. “Combining Construction with Management for Seamless Handover”. It has developed and improved its lean production management model with diagnostic operation, lean maintenance and responsibility system as its core, and has been providing a reference and a replicable management model for giant hydropower projects in China and at abroad.
Gezhouba Hydropower Plant (“Gezhouba HPP”) runs and manages China’s largest low head runoff power station - Gezhouba Hydropower Complex.
The plant was originally installed with 21 generating units, having a total installed capacity of 2,715 MW, and one 20 MW generating unit was additionally installed in 1996 for emergency power supply. The generating units have been upgraded and capacity expanded as scheduled progressively since 2005. The annual average power generation of the plant is 16 TWh, and accumulative power generation had exceeded 548.2 TWh by December 31, 2018.
Since the first generating unit was put into operation in July 1981, Gezhouba HPP has always been adhering to innovation in management, technology and mechanism, and has made great contribution to China’s socialist construction and improvement of livelihood. Being the first giant hydropower project on the mainstream of the Yangtze River, Gezhouba HPP has accumulated rich experience in China’s giant hydropower project operation and management, reservoir operation, navigation management, flood control, overhaul and maintenance of giant hydro generating units, 500 kV UHV long-distance AC & DC power transmission, power industry safe production and training of talents. It has become an important milestone in China’s hydropower development history.
Founded on November 8, 2012, Xiluodu Hydropower Plant (“Xiluodu HPP”) is responsible for the O&M management and cost control of power generation
of Xiluodu Power Station. It is striving to become a world-class hydropower plant based on the mission of “operating and managing Xiluodu Hydropower Station with high quality and high standard” and the general idea of “enhancing safety management to realize essential safety, improving equipment management to realize optimal operation, and grasping core technologies to strengthen maintenance capability”.
Xiluodu HPP is located at the Jinsha River reach at the border of Leibo County of Sichuan Province and Yongshan County of Yunnan Province. It is a key power source for China’s “West-East Power Transmission Project” with its power generated mainly supplied to the East and Central China. The plant has 18 generating units with a single installed capacity of 770 MW, the total installed capacity of 13,860 MW and the dam height of 285.5 m. It is the first power plant with a high arch dam and with total installed capacity over 10,000 MW around the world, making it win the “FIDIC Awards 2016 - Outstanding Engineering Project”. Its construction was officially started in the end of 2005, the first batch of generating units was put into operation in July 2013 and all the 18 generating units began generating power in the end of June 2014. By December, 2018, its accumulated power generation had reached over 300 TWh.
Xiangjiaba Hydropower Plant (“Xiangjiaba HPP”) operates and manages Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station.
It is responsible for the O&M, navigation facility management, real asset management, production cost control and dam area management (including the security, fire control, public asset & dam site management) of Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station. It insists on pursuing perfection and innovation to realize continuous promotion of the management capacity of the whole plant so as to be a qualified guardian for the Xiangjiaba Project, “create an internationally first-class power plant and establish a management benchmark for the whole power station”.
Xiangjiaba HPP is the most downstream power station in the Jinsha River Basin. Its dam is located at the exit of Jinsha River Valley at the boundary between Yibin City of Sichuan Province and Shuifu City of Yunnan Province, controlling the neck of Jinsha River Basin along the border of Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. It is a key power source for China’s West-East Power Transmission Project and also an important part of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The power plant mainly serves for power generation with comprehensive benefits of flood-control, navigation, irrigation, sediment retaining, etc. It has eight 800 MW generating units which are the largest globally, and is equipped with a vertical ship lift with the largest lifting height of 114.2 m around the world. The construction of the project was officially started in November 2006, the first generating unit began generating power in November 2012 and all the generating units were put into operation in July 2014. The ship lift was officially launched for trial operation on May 26, 2018. By the end of 2018, its accumulated power generation had reached over 170 TWh.
Founded on November 28, 2002, the Overhaul and Maintenance Factory (“OMF”) is made up of
professional teams,providing associated maintenance services for power plants owned or operated by CYPC, in accordance with the requirements of cascaded power plants maintenance management system, i.e. “mastering core technologies, highly capable, efficient and flexible, coordinated and cooperative, and giving priority on project management”. It has the advantages such as comprehensive and complete specialities, advanced maintenance technologies and strong maintenance capacity in China’s giant hydropower plant maintenance. The OMF maintains a leading position in China’s hydropower plant maintenance in respect of the maintenance and upgrading of giant hydro-generating units of 700 MW or above, the fault diagnosis and emergency treatment for equipment of large hydro-units, the maintenance and upgrading of power transmission and transformation equipment of 220 kV or above, the onsite overhaul of 500 kV substations, the maintenance, underwater repair and underwater measurement of hydraulic structures, and the maintenance of hydraulic steel structures and gate hoists.
The OMF practices the concept of “proactive and lifetime responsibility”. Relying on innovation in technology and management, it takes “providing high quality maintenance and guaranteeing clean energy production” as its mission, builds its core capacity in cascaded power plants maintenance, and strives to be a “world leader in the hydropower maintenance industry”.
Three Gorges Cascade Dispatch & Communication Center (“TGCDCC”) is responsible for:
(1) the dispatching of downstream Jinsha River - Three Gorges cascaded hydropower plants (including the Three Gorges, Gezhouba, Xiluodu & Xiangjiaba HPPs that have been built and the Wudongde and Baihetan HPPs still under construction); (2) comprehensive utilization of water resources in the basin; (3) the building, operation and management of automatic cascade regulation system; and (4) hydro-meteorological service guarantee for hydropower projects under construction. Its major businesses include meteorological & hydrological forecast, power generation plan formulating, real-time operation mode dispatching of cascade hydropower plants in the basin. It receives commands from the State and Yangtze River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters as well as the power system operator, and coordinates with the dispatching and operation of cascaded power plants to make the best overall benefit of cascaded hydro-complexes.
Upholding the principle of “making full use of any amount of water and well dispatching any amount of power generated”, TGCDCC follows the dispatching and management mode of “integrated regulation of reservoirs and sectionalized remote control”. It has set up departments in base of Yichang for professional and overall management on cascade dispatching in the basin, and established two regulation & control centers in Kunming and Chengdu for “integrated regulation and control” on the power plants in the basin. And now it is fully cultivating the core competence of water resource utilization and unified dispatching of cascaded power plants in the basin to build a cascade dispatch & communication center which is “basin-dominant and market-oriented with intelligent decision and innovative management”.
Wudongde Hydropower Plant Preparatory Office is mainly responsible for the power production
preparation and construction preparation of Wudongde Hydropower Plant. Since its establishment, it has been persisting on the management concept of “combining construction with management for seamless handover”. Besides, it has been participating in the construction of projects in an all-round way, and initiating electric power production preparation with high starting point, high standards and high quality, so as to lay a solid foundation for the construction of an intrinsically safe power plant and the establishment of a world-class hydropower plant.
Located at the boundary river section between Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, Wudongde Hydropower Plant is currently the world's second largest hydropower plant under construction. The power plant is mainly designed for power generation, taking into consideration of such comprehensive benefits as flood control, sediment retaining, and improvement of navigation conditions of the reservoir area and lower reaches of the dam. 6 × 850 MW hydro-generating units are installed in underground powerhouses on the left and right banks of the power plant, with a total installed capacity of 10,200 MW. The project was started to prepare for construction in 2011. The first batch of generating units is planned to generate electricity in July 2020 and all the generating units to put into operation in July 2021.
The Preparatory Office is mainly responsible for the power production preparation and construction preparation of Baihetan Hydropower Plant.
Since its establishment, it has been persisting on the management concept of “combining construction with management for seamless handover”, and participating in the construction of projects in an all-round way to build an intrinsically safe power plant from the beginning. Adhering to inheritance and innovation, the Preparatory Office aims to build an electric power production management system for Baihetan HPP with high standard so as to lay a solid foundation for the establishment of a world-class hydropower plant.
Located at the boundary river section between Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, Baihetan HPP is currently the world's largest hydropower plant under construction. The power plant is mainly designed for power generation, and takes into consideration of flood control, local economic and social development to help the relocatees shake off poverty and become prosperous. After the hydropower plant is completed, it will improve the navigation conditions in the lower reaches, retain sediment and become one of the key power sources for China’s "West-East Power Transmission Project". 8 × 1,000 MW hydro-generating units will be installed in underground powerhouses on both the left and right banks of the power plant, with a total installed capacity of 16,000 MW. The project was started to prepare for construction in 2012. The first batch of generating units is planned to generate electricity on July 1, 2021 and all the generating units to put into operation in March 2023.

It is striving to form an expert team with complete specialties, reasonable structure and leading technologies so as to provide strong technical support for the company to become a leader in the world’s hydropower industry.

Three Gorges Electric Energy Co., Ltd. (“TGEE”) is a company jointly established by CYPC and Three Gorges Capital Holdings Co.,
Ltd. under the guidance of CTG for the purpose of adaption to the new round of national electric power reform.
Focusing on becoming the only listed power distribution & sales platform of CTG, the only integrated energy service platform with power distribution & sales as its core, the only international power distribution & sales business platform of CTG and an important power retail business platform, TGEE will strive to become a benchmark enterprise of integrated energy service with power distribution & sales as its core.
After the development of over three years, electric power business of TGEE is available in over ten provinces and cities (such as Chongqing City, Guangdong Province, Yunnan Province). Eight holding (joint-stock) companies have shares in TGEE, making TGEE a market-oriented professional talent team of nearly 500 people. Comprehensive energy business of TGEE such as power distribution network, sales, distributed energy, energy storage, charging pile, Internet Plus user side service has been fully developed.
