Three Gorges Hydropower Plant operates and manages the largest hydropower station in the world——the Three Gorges Hydropower Station,
which consists of 26 units on the left and right banks (with unit capacity of 700MW), 6 units in the underground power station (with unit capacity of 700MW), and 2 units in the power supply station (with unit capacity of 50MW), and has a total installed capacity of 22,500 MW. The Three Gorges Hydropower Station, located in Sandouping, Yichang City, Hubei Province, the middle section of the Xiling Gorge of the Yangtze River, is the center of the national power network, connecting power grids of the East China, Central China and the South. Being the key power supply point of "west-east power transmission", cumulative power generation of the Three Gorges Hydropower Station over the years has exceeded 900 TWh as of January 2016.
With the pursuit of the international first-class standard, the Three Gorges Hydropower Plant has reached an installed capacity of 50 MW per capita, created the new hydropower construction and operation mode "combination of construction and management and seamless handover", and established and improved the lean production and management by operation diagnosis, lean maintenance and responsibility system. The Company provides an operation and management mode that can be referenced and used by the domestic and foreign large-scale hydropower stations.
Gezhouba Hydropower Plant is the operation and management unit of the Gezhouba hydro-project. Gezhouba Hydropower Station is the largest low
water head runoff hydropower station, with 21 designed units, and total installed capacity of 2,715MW. A 20MW unit was added as the emergency power supply in 1996, and the unit transformation to increase capacity has been gradually implemented as scheduled since 2005. Annual average power generation of the station is 16 TWh, and power generation in 2015 reached 17.972 TWh, creating yet another new record. As of December 31, 2015, the cumulative generating capacity has exceeded 492.6 TWh.
Since the first unit put into operation in July 1981, the Gezhouba Hydropower Plant has adhered to the management, technological and mechanism innovations, making great contributions to the social construction and the improvement of people's living standards. As the first large hydropower station on the Yangtze River, the Gezhouba Hydropower Plant has provided a wealth of experience in operation management of large water conservancy and hydropower projects in China, reservoir regulation, shipping management, flood control, overhaul and maintenance of large turbine generator sets, 500kV ultrahigh voltage long distance AC/DC power transmission, safety production and personnel training of power enterprises, becoming an important milestone in the history of China's hydropower development.
Xiluodu Hydropower Plant was established in November 2012 to take charge of the production
management of Xiluodu Hydropower Station. It aims at building an international first class power plant in accordance with the general thoughts of "intensifying responsibilities of power plant, optimizing resource allocation, creating a lean management and an international first class power plant" while taking "constructing essentially safe power station, producing quality and clean electric power and realizing comprehensive benefits of the project" as the mission.
Xiluodu Hydropower Station is located in the canyon river section of Jinsha River, which connects with Leibo County of Sichuan Province and Yongshan County of Yunnan Province. It is a giant hydropower station focusing on power generation, with such comprehensive benefits as flood control, sediment retaining and improving navigation conditions of downstream sections. 9 hydro turbine generator sets with the maximum capacity of 770MW respectively are installed for each underground plant on the left and right bank, with an annual power generation of 57.12 TWh. The project was formally commenced in December 2005. In July 2013, the first batch of units were put into operation. In June 30, 2014, all units were put into operation for power generation. By the end of 2015, the power station has accumulatively generated power of 115 TWh.
Xiangjiaba Hydropower Plant was established in February 2012 for the operation, maintenance
and management of Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station as well as the control of production cost for power generation.
Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station is the last cascade of power station developed for the cascade development of hydro-power resource of Jinsha River drainage basin. The dam is located at the outlet of the Jinsha River Canyon, where Yibin County of Sichuan Province and Shuifu County of Yunnan Province meet. The station is installed with 8*800MW water turbine generator sets and with total installed capacity of 6,400MW. Construction of Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station was formally commenced in November 2006. In December 2008, closure of main riverbed was completed. In November 2012, the first unit was put into operation. In July 2014, all units were put into production for power generation. By January 2016, Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station has accumulatively generated power of more than 80TWh.
Xiangjiaba Hydropower Plant will adhere to the goal of "creating an international first class power plant", promote the construction of safe power stations in an all-round manner, constantly improve the production management system, develop the core competencies to operate and manage ultra-large units of giant power stations, realize comprehensive benefits of the project and make greater contributions to the development of the company.
The Overhaul & Maintenance Plant is composed of a professional team that provides maintenance and
repair services for power stations of the company in accordance with the maintenance and repair management system of cascade power station of river basin of "grasping core technologies, high efficiency and flexibility, planning as a whole, coordination, and cooperation, and project management first". It has such advantages as the most complete work types of large domestic hydropower station maintenance and repair disciplines, the most advanced maintenance and repair technology and the strongest maintenance and repair abilities. It holds a leading position in the hydropower maintenance and repair industry of China in such technical aspects as maintenance and repair of 700MW giant units, status monitoring and diagnostic maintenance and repair of large hydropower units, maintenance and repair of 500kV power transmission and distribution equipment, site overhaul of 500kV transformers, and safety monitoring and underwater inspection and repair of hydraulic structures.
The Overhaul & Maintenance Plant implements the concept of "active responsibility and lifelong responsibility", takes "providing quality and efficient maintenance and repair, guaranteeing production of clean energy" as the mission. It makes efforts to develop the core competencies for maintenance and repair of cascade power stations of river basins and realize the goal of "creating an international first class maintenance and repair team".
The Three Gorges Dispatch& Communication Center (hereinafter, TGDCC) of the Three Gorges Project
is fully responsible for the dispatching of cascade power stations from downstream of Jinsha River to the Three Gorges, including the Three Gorges Hydropower Station, Gezhouba Hydropower Station, Xiluodu Hydropower Station and Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station as well as such future power stations as Wudongde Hydropower Station and Baihetan Hydropower Station. TGDCC assumes responsibilities in such works as dispatching for operation of reservoirs of the hydro-complex, dispatching for power production and operation, hydrometeorological service of the river basins, and management and maintenance of power communication system of the hydro-complex. It also receives the instruction of superior dispatching department to take charge of such works as coordinating flood control, shipping, power generation and hydro meteorology to maximally realize the comprehensive benefits of cascade hydro-complex of river basin.
The TGDCC deeply carries out the work concept of "making good use of every cubic meter of water and dispatching every kWh of power" and the management policy of "accurate forecast, scientific dispatching, people first, safety and efficiency.” It attaches great importance to talent cultivation, strengthens scientific and technological innovation, and makes all efforts to cultivate the core ability to dispatch for utilization of cascade water resources of drainage basins in accordance with the management mode of "unified reservoir and regional power remote-control ", and makes efforts to create an international first class cascade dispatching center.
Wudongde Hydropower Station and Baihetan Hydropower Station are located in the river section
of the boundary river between Yunnan and Sichuan. They are important parts of the flood control system of the Yangtze River, and they are also important energy projects for China to realize the goal that non-fossil energy consumption must account for 15% in consumption of primary energy by 2020.
The right bank of Wudongde Hydropower Station is located in Luquan County of Kunming, Yunnan, and the left bank is located in Huidong County of Sichuan. It is the hydropower station of the first cascade among the four cascade hydropower stations (Wudongde Hydropower Station, Baihetan Hydropower Station, Xiluodu Hydropower Station and Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station) in downstream section of Jinsha River. The hydro-complex is mainly composed of concrete double-curvature arch dam, flood discharge and energy dissipation structures and water diversion and power generation system on the left and right bank. 6*850MW hydro turbine generator sets are respectively installed in the underground plants on the left and right bank, with a total installed capacity of 10,200MW. The annual average power generation of the hydropower station is about 38.91 TWh. Construction preparation of the project was started in 2011 and construction of the project was formally commenced in December 2015. The first batch of generator sets are scheduled to be put into production in July 2020 and the project is scheduled to be fully completed in December 2021.
The right bank of Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in Qiaojia County of Yunnan and the left bank is located in Ningnan County of Sichuan. It is the hydropower station of the second cascade among the four cascade hydropower stations in the downstream of Jinsha River. The hydro-complex is mainly composed of concrete double-curvature arch dam, flood discharge and energy dissipation structures and water diversion and power generation system on the left and right bank. 8*1,000MW water turbine generator sets are respectively installed in the underground plants on the left and right bank, with a total installed capacity of 16,000MW. The annual average power generation of the hydropower station is about 62.521 TWh. Construction preparation of the project was started in 2012 and the first batch of generator sets are scheduled to be put into production in July 2021, and the project is scheduled to be fully completed in December 2022.
According to the management concept of "combining construction and management and realizing seamless handover" of CTG and the construction progress of Wudongde Hydropower Station and Baihetan Hydropower Station, CYPC established the Wudongde and Baihetan Power Production Preparatory Team in December 2015 to plan and carrying out for the power production preparation works for the two Hydropower Stations.
The Technology Research Center is the supporting and servicing organization with such functions as providing Technology Research for power production,
technical supervision, standard formulation, inspection and test, diagnosis and analysis, water resource utilization research, technical consultation and skill training.
The Technology Research Center is an open platform for scientific and technological research of the company, technical innovation, and talent training. It utilizes public resources of the company to create the research and development ability of power production technology, standard formulation ability, diagnose and test ability, technical supervision, management abilities, and the ability to cultivate quality talent teams.
Three Gorges Electric Power Co., Ltd. (TGEP) is a holding subsidiary of CYPC established with the joint contribution of CYPC (70%) and Three Gorges
Capital Holdings Limited (30%). It mainly carries out power selling, distribution, and relevant businesses. It is the only platform arranging the power selling and distribution business of China Three Gorges Corporation.
The establishment of TGEP performed by CTG and CYPC is a major strategic layout for adapting to the new round of power system reform and creating the industry chain of "power generation, distribution and selling". It is helpful in solving such risks as insufficient growth potential for a single hydropower business of CYPC and exploring new room for power consumption and profit growth to realize the development where power distribution and selling business, large hydropower and new energy consumption support each other to develop in a coordinated manner.
China CYPC International (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CYPC International) was
established in Hong Kong in December 2010 with aregistered capital of USD 52,000,000. CYPC International is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. and its business scope includes development, investment, operation and management of overseas electric power and energy projects. As the investment platform of China Three Gorges Corporation and China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. for expanding overseas business. CYPC International assumes the operation and management task for overseas hydropower projects invested or constructed by China Three Gorges Corporation, and is in charge of the overseas investment and financing authorized by China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd.
China Three Gorges Power Operation int’l Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, "International Operation Company") was established with the joint contribution of China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. and Three Gorges International Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. Its main responsibility is to carry out operations and management businesses for overseas power plants of CTG under the uniform coordination of CYPC as well as support of power production and management system. It also actively explores relevant business markets for operation and management of overseas power plants of other companies.
The business scope of the International Operation Company includes investment development of the CTG, EPC construction, operation and maintenance, technical transformation, capacity enhancement and technical consultation for oversea acquired hydropower stations and those for which other project owners and financial investment institutions carry out open bidding.
